  • Due to the thin material and rhinestones throughout, they will need to be gently rolled up the legs.
  • The Difference Between Knee-high, Over-the-knee & Thigh-high Boots

The difference is in the measurements and will vary from person to person. There are awkward in-between areas that need to be avoided, though. Examples of this are knee-high boots rising halfway over the knee, over the knee boots touching the mid thigh, or thigh-high boots rising near the crotch. The key is to understand both your and the measurements of the boot before purchasing them.

    • Knee-high boots will rise up to just below the knees, and sometimes rise just over the bottom area of the kneecap, but will not cover the entire knee.
    • Over-the-knee boots will ideally come up to the top of the knee cap (never lower), covering the knee it in its entirety. It is also common for them to run an inch or so over the knee.
    • Thigh-high boots will come up to at least the mid-thigh area and can rise higher than this. They will often sit 2-3 inches away from your inseam.

Knee-High Stiletto Boots Boots Buyers Guide

Like a magician, a stiletto heel adds a sexy undercurrent to your steps by adding flex to the calf, making the bust and buttocks more prominent. They also give the illusion of longer, slimmer legs and add several inches of height, making them a great option for those who want to look taller.

However, they need to be well made to give the stability for a confident stride. Finding good quality boots can be a tiring process, but I wanted to do this and have sourced them out!

    Are Knee-High Boots in Style?

Designers are focusing more and more on knee-high boots, and you will see them popping up all over the town!

They are perfect for both summer and winter wear and are a boot that has remained a wardrobe staple and is becoming more popular as time goes by. Due to their versatility and chic city styling they can be used to heighten the aesthetic of countless outfits.

Whether it be dressy looks, peeping out from under a midi skirt, or other casual attire such as shorts, denim jeans, and leggings - you name it they can be worked into it.

    How Tall Are Knee-High Boots?

Knee-high boots will ideally end directly below the knee bone or at most 2 inches below. As styles have varied shaft heights, it is possible that some will fall a few inches shorter or taller than your knee, depending on your leg length. So, it is best to know your size and read product details before buying.

    Measuring For Knee-High Boots

The majority of boot models will have the shaft height and circumference listed, so knowing your perfect shaft height and calf circumference is essential to help choose the correct size. This will make you much more relaxed when shopping or ordering online as you have a guideline of what to buy, so won't have to keep returning them.

    Shaft Height

To measure your ideal shaft height, you want to measure from the bottom arch of your foot all the way up the calf to the area where you would be happy for the boot to rise to. You may be happy with a boot that falls anywhere within a 2-inch radius below the knee, or you may want a boot that hits an exact point, where you will have to be very careful when buying to ensure the shaft height suits your requirements.

    Circumference

You can find your calf circumference by loosely measuring around the widest point of your calf. How loose or tight a fitting you want is personal preference, but in an ideal world they would fit tightly and also as comfortably close to your legs you can manage.

Lastly, if you already own a pair of boots that fit you really well then you can take their measurements and order the same sizing, or better yet from the same manufacturer.

    Average-Sized Legs

For average-sized legs, your regular-sized boot should fit your normal size just fine. If the boot is is an oversized style then avoid sizing up as they will already accommodate your size with ease, and most likely be comfortable for a slightly larger size too. They may also be heavier and you will want a secured fitting to walk comfortably.

For larger legs you can size up so the fitting will comfortably accommodate the legs without unnecessary rubbing.

    • You want the foot area to fit like a glove, tight enough to remain firmly inside the foot area. If you are an in-between size then you can buy an insole to accommodate the larger boot.
    • Lace and zip styles will provide a more customized fitting.
    • If they are loose then think about tucking something into them.

    Sizing Up or Down

Knee-high boots can accommodate legs and of all different shapes and sizes.

Always check reviews and descriptions of boots, as sizing can vary from person to person. Also, when wearing them in the winter you might want to use thicker socks so check out the description before you decide to size up or just stay true to size.

The general rule is that unless the manufacturer recommends, to never size down, as boots that are too tight for your feet will never stretch out enough to feel comfortable. If your feet are skinny then the boot won't fit and it is best not to force it, as they simply might not be the right boot for you.

Should Your Toes Touch The End of Your Boots?

It is always best to keep a few millimeters of space between your toes and the end of the boots for freedom of movement. In other words, you should be able to wiggle your toes inside the toe box. Another reason to consider more space is that if you are wearing wintery knee-high boots then you need the space to accommodate thicker socks.

One way to see if your boot has enough room for your toes is to place your foot inside the boot and move your entire foot forwards so your toes are gently touching the front. Then in the heel area, you should have enough space between your heel and the back of the boot for a finger to tightly squeeze in-between.

How to Look Taller In Knee-High Boots

Knee-high boots can make shorter women feel a little uneasy, due to their lengthy appearance and often being worn by those with long, super model-like legs.

But shorter legs can wear them just fine. Here are some tips to appear taller wearing your knee-high boots:

    • If you wear them with a shorter skirt, dress, or shorts without additional layers on top. This can help elongate the leg line and make you appear taller.
    • an also add matching color pants and top half for a streamlined, slender appearance.
    • Choosing a higher heel is also a plus point to further lengthen the leg line. Heels will naturally encourage a straighter posture.
    • Wearing clothing supporting a higher waistline is yet another trick to elongate the look of the legs, along with a thin belt to allow as much height as possible before the line breaks.

    Uppers

    Suede

Suede is softer looking than leather and feels like velvet. However its softness comes with drawbacks and It is going to be less durable than leather, and even when treated it is not going to last long in colder rainy, and snowy climates.

    Faux suede

Faux suede is an animal-friendly material that mimics the real thing. Due to it being man-made it's less susceptible to water damage and staining, making it a popular choice for casual wear.

    Real Leather

Leather comes in different variations, with full-grain being the toughest out there. Leather is made from animal hides, ages nicely over time, and can last for years. If you regularly treat it with a waterproofing spray it can serve you well in colder/wetter climates.

    Faux leather

Faux leather is artificial leather and at a glance can appear like the real thing. When new they are going to keep you protected in the rain and snow, and styles such as PU can be aesthetically pleasing and easy to wipe clean. However, the durability of this leather is questionable and is never going to live up to the standards of the real thing.

    Lining

    Fleece lining

Fleece lining is great for colder seasons, as it provides added heat insulation and will feel warm, soft, and cozy around the feet.

    Leather lining

Leather lining is soft and will shape your foot as time goes by. It facilitates airflow and prevents moisture build-up by letting it evaporate.

    Textile lining

Textile material is a cheaper option to leather and fairly comfortable. The difference is that while leather allows moisture to evaporate, the textile lining will absorb it and this can lead to smelly shoes, etc.

    Soles

    Leather Soles

Leather soles will become flexible over time and will provide a nice custom step. The more layers of leather that are used, the more durable they will be. They are not suited to wet climates, as being a natural material they will absorb moisture over time and this can damage them.

    Rubber soles

Rubber naturally have shock absorption and will feel flexible from the first wear. Rubber is also weather resistant and will provide great traction support.

A combination of leather soles and a rubber heel tip is often used for stiletto heels as this can provide flexibility alongside traction support in the heel area.

    What Defines a Stiletto Heel

Named after the sharp and pointed stiletto dagger, stilettos are a type of heel you will see on many shoe styles such as boots.

Where they differ from other heel types is in the structure and materials.

The shape of a stiletto heel is a long, thin supportive main section, that gives the appearance of delicacy. However, they will be constructed of strong materials such as solid steel or alloy to ensure strength and stability. They often have -1 cm diameter metal or rubber tips for solid traction support.

Their height can vary from kitten heels 1-2 inches (2.54 - 5.1 cm) to 10 inches (12cm) and more! For really high designs a platform sole is often used. With all of the above combined, this has made them a highly popular shoe design for a feminine appearance and also to give the illusion of longer legs, and added height.

Test if They Are Right For You

A stiletto is thinner than a regular heel and you need to avoid wobbling and feeling unstable when wearing them. Therefore it is advisable to determine if the heel height of a stiletto is comfortable for you.

So one way to do this is, when standing in your heels, try to lift yourself up onto your tiptoes around an inch off of the floor. If this is a considerable strain then the heel is most likely too high for you, as the foot is already pointed at an angle nearing your maximum tip-toe range.

Unless your feet are used to this height this can cause unnecessary stress on them when wearing your heels outside for long periods or on uneven terrains.

    Practice Walking In Them

If you haven't ever worn stiletto heels before then do not go outside without practice!

Given the higher heel height, it's important to practice walking in them before venturing outside. If you like then you can first try a smaller heel and graduate to a higher heel when you feel comfortable.

Some people place the whole foot down at once, and this is wrong looks awkward, and can cause problems.

You can practice on the carpet and walk forwards with slow, small steps, walking in a heel-to-toe motion. You want to transfer the weight from the heels through the foot to the toes, so by placing the heel down first you can practice a technique that you are comfortable with.

    Additional Tips

    • Take a spare pair of flatter shoes out with you for when you are new to wearing them or for nights out on the town. If you are new to them - bring plasters too
    • Break them in before wearing them outside and master your steps
    • A silicone insert can save unnecessary tension in the ball of the foot.

    Over-The-Knee Boots Buyers Guide

Over-the-knee boots remain a constant staple in many wardrobes due to their ability to dress up many outfits. Companies are constantly creating innovative styles to move alongside the constantly changing trends of modern-day society - and the library of options available today is vast!

This is why it can be a challenge to find boots that fit your needs, as with so many different options available sometimes what you receive does not live up to expectations, or resemble what you saw in pictures. Some styles might run further up the leg than you thought, have tight ankle areas and a larger calf area, or are of very poor quality.

So, on this page we have spent the time to put together a list of some of the best functional over-the-knee boots (not thigh-high) that have received universal praise. Whether you have skinny legs or extra-wide calves - we have you covered!

    Are Over-the-knee Boots in Style?

Yes, they are, and companies are constantly updating their approach to the trend. Just look out for them on your next trip out - you are bound to see them.

They are especially suited to the Autumn and Winter months, where they are both styleable and practical. For those who want heeled footwear through the colder seasons, there are a plentiful array of options, and the higher shaft height will help to insulate heat while you go about it. You can also find styles that have a fur-like lining for a cozy feel, and sturdy soles that are designed to provide necessary traction support on slippery surfaces.

In 2022 it is common to see them used as a juxtaposition for a perfect contrasting effect. You can also use them to pull off a sophisticated, sexy, and playful wintery look, or pair them with a dressy-looking outfit and overcoat. As you can see, they are diverse and constantly being reworked, making them a must-have for modern styling.

Are They Okay to Wear at Work?

If you are allowed freedom of choice for what to wear then you can usually wear them to work, but you will need to adapt the style of your boots depending on the environment, as they need to match this to make sense.

Let's take an office environment, for example:

If you work in an office with a conservative atmosphere then you may want to avoid standing out and being the talk of the department. In this case, a classic, sophisticated rich suede or leather boot with neutral coloring and no showy detailing is the way to do it. Avoid shiny PU, glitter, and other lively styles as these are best suited to other occasions. A low to medium heel is also best here.

If you work in an energetic, liberal, and upbeat environment then you can naturally be more creative with outfits, and may even get complimented and respected for wearing a more daring style. Of course, you don't want to be pairing them with vivacious-looking outfits like you would for a night out, but you can wear a more flamboyant boot with a higher heel to style your outfits.

How to Look Taller in Them

For shorter women, you might feel that shorter legs do not fit long boots, but this is not the case, and there are some tricks to make them work wonders and to help you look taller.

REMEMBER the first building block to looking taller is wearing them with confidence, as this style of footwear demands it.

    • Higher heels with a pointed toe will help to elongate the look of the feet/legs. Also, making sure they fit like a glove and choosing a neutral color can slim down the legs and trick the eyes into the illusion of added height.
    • Higher waisted clothing tucked into neutral-colored pants/tights/jeans can give the illusion of long, slender legs. Pair them with a thin belt too for as much space as possible between your legs and waistline!
    • Pairing accessories on the top half of the body can help to draw attention upwards and help you to look taller. They will also blend in nicely with your stylish boots for a creative, confident look.

    How Should Over-The-Knee Boots Fit?

Over-the-knee boots can fit smaller, average, and taller legs, but in general are more suited to smaller/average sizes. For taller women, it may be harder to find a pair that sit perfectly around your knee, but of course, it is still possible to find the perfect pair, so it is best to check the dimensions of the boots before making a purchase.

You want your boots to fit as firmly but also as comfortably around the legs as possible, not too tight, or too loose, to avoid a compressed or baggy look.

    Skinny Calves

If you have slender calves, you will want to look for boots that are specifically tailored for them. There are many options out there. If you are in love with a style that is a little loose around the calf, then you can buy velcro bootstraps or try some thicker/2-3 layers of socks.

    Thicker Calves

For larger calves, you may have a hard time finding boots, as they are constantly too tight around this area or difficult to pull over the knees. In this case, there are wide calf options available, but it is important to make sure the measurements are correct.

    Remember

Some boots are oddly shaped, for instance with a narrow and tighter foot area and a wider calf area. It is always best to read the manufacturer's recommendations to understand if the style you like is suited to you. When you find a brand that fits you perfectly, check out their range, as if you find what you need this can save you a lot of time in returning boots that aren't suitable for your size.

If you fall in love with a pair of boots online that do not seem to fit your size, look out for features such as adjustable buckles, or stretchy fabric, as sometimes a boot can adjust to accommodate your foot/calf size. Also, make sure to read reviews and see if you can find info on this from previous customers.

    How to Measure Your Size

    Shaft Height

To measure your ideal shaft height, measure from underneath the arch of the foot up the leg to where you would like the boot to end above the knee. Then have a look at the boot shaft height and see how that compares with your ideal measurements. Some boots will naturally crumple or fall down slightly, and some will have a hi-low shaft type, so keep that in mind.

    Calf Circumference

To measure calf circumference, you want to measure with a flexible tape measure around the fullest point of the calf.

In general, 14 inch (35.56 cm) or less would be classed as a narrow calf, 15 inch (38.1 cm) can be considered medium, and 16 inch (40.64 cm) or more would be classed as a larger calf.

Ideally, you want some room at the back of the calf, so a boot opening around 1 inch (2.54 cm) larger than your calf measurement should do the job nicely.

    Ankles Size

This is not shown in the manufacturer details section with this style of boot, but this is also an important area to consider, as if this area is too wide/tight they will not be suitable. Your best bet is to look closely at the ankle of the boot and try to find pictures from reviews and foot models to show how it is fitting them.

How to Stop Them From Falling Down

If you have already purchased boots that constantly slouch then there are also some tricks to keep them up.

    • Pre-made velcro bootstraps can be purchased that can be placed at the calf or ankle area over your jeans, etc, and once wrapped around you simply fasten them, put the boot on - and your problems are solved!
    • If your boots are slightly loose at the top then one idea is to use double-sided tape, by placing it around your leggings, etc, and then after putting the boot on gently press them against the tape. This is not advised as a long-term fix but can be used as an affordable and temporary solution in times of need.
    • Swap out your clothing styles. For example replace thinner socks with thicker socks, or layers of socks. Use denim instead of thinner fabrics. Workaround it and change what you are pairing your boots with.

To avoid this issue appearing next time, there are a few design cues to look out for to stop your boots from slouching.

Firstly look for back-lace-up styles, as you can adjust the calf fitting. Also, adjustable buckles and stretch panels running up the shaft of the boot will keep them in place. Finally, stretchy elasticated fabrics will shape to your legs, and some styles of boot can fit both thinner and wider calves.

    How to Pull Them up

It can sometimes be hard to pull up long boots over the knee, due to a stretchy shaft or being tightly fitted, etc.

In this case, wearing stockings/nylons/tights and other smooth materials either on the skin or partly over jeans, etc will add less friction and help to pull the boot up. The downside of this is that as they are smooth to pull up, they might scrunch down when walking in the boots.

Another idea is to fold the top of the boot over or scrunch the boots down as far as they can go. Then while keeping the heel of the boot planted on the floor, put the foot inside and gently ease the uppers up the leg. Once at the top, give them a firm pull to make the wrinkles created in the fabric disappear.

    Common Heel Types

Over-the-knee boots often add a high heel into the mix for additional height and the appearance of longer legs.

    High Heels/Stilettos

High heels are a common addition to over-the-knee boots. For added stability then a regular, thicker high heel will add some Height and keep you on your feet. Stiletto heels take a little longer to get used to and are one of the highest of the heel range, slender, sexy, and ready to go! They offer a huge lengthening effect on the legs. Some higher-height designs also offer platforms for ease of use.

    Wedge Styles

This style of heel often comes attached to the sole area, and a good option for those who want added stability, a smooth sloping arch and a few inches of height. The greater surface area eases pressure off of the ball of the foot, making them wearable for longer periods. Some boots will have a hidden wedge design, that works well for secretive lengthening of the legs!

    Chunky/Block Heels

These are great for those carrying a little extra weight and also for larger feet prone to foot aches and pains. They will support the full surface area of the heel and provide the necessary comfort and support for all-day wear.

    Kitten Heels

This style of heel offers a great balance of style and comfort. They retain the sexy vibe of a regular stiletto alongside the added stability of being much lower to the ground! They are great for work events and times where you want a little sway in your steps and will be on your feet all day!

    Low Heels

Lower heeled 1-1.5 inch (2.54-3.8 cm) designs are perfect for those who either do not want any added height or want to use the boots for functional purposes such as protecting the legs from the cold and keeping their feet firmly on the floor.

    Toe Design

    Pointed Toes

These are classy looking, these are great for elongating the look of the feet and also slimming their appearance, and lengthening the leg line.

    Round Toes

This style can accommodate wider feet and are classic in design.

    Uppers

    Genuine Suede

Suede is soft with a velvety texture and feel. It is great for adding a soft, delicate touch to outfits, but has drawbacks such as being less weather resistant and is also prone to staining. It can be treated with a water repellent spray, but even then a faux suede or leather will be a better choice for the colder months.

    Genuine Leather

Leather will continue to be the number one choice for the majority of boot wearers.

a women standing in sexy suede over the knee boots

Due to it being made from animal hide it has a natural toughness and durability to it, with some boots using 3+ layers that can last for years of wear! It can easily be treated or waxed for added weather resistance, and also ages like fine wine!

    Faux Leather/Suede

Faux leather provides another tick for animal friendliness and is a highly popular material for boot lovers.

Due to its affordability, weather resistance, easy-to-clean nature, and aesthetically eye-catching designs, it's a popular choice for everyday wear and can be worn without the worry of easily damaging. Naturally, though, they are not going to last as long or look as detailed and refined as real leather.

    Inner Lining

    Fleece Lining

This lining will provide all the coziness and heat insulation you need. It is also highly breathable, durable, moisture-resistant, and remains insulating when wet, working harmoniously alongside colder seasons.

    Leather Lining

Made for long-term use, it can feel hard at first, but is adaptable and will provide a nice custom feeling for the shape of your feet as time goes by. It also helps airflow throughout the boot and is moisture-wicking by nature, allowing moisture build-up to evaporate.

    Textile Lining

These fabrics are animal friendly and commonly seen in cheaper shoe designs. It can also provide decent levels of comfort, working well for casual wear. The drawback here is that it will not allow much airflow throughout the boot and often absorbs moisture over time - leading to smelly shoes and feet.

    Soles

    Leather Soles

These soles are built for the long run and will feel hard to walk on at first, but over time they will soften up and shape to your steps, providing a nice custom, flexible fit. Often more than one layer of leather is used to provide added durability and wear resistance. The one drawback is that they are not suited to wetter climates, as they will absorb moisture from the ground and this can irreparably damage them over time. With higher heeled boot styles leather soles will often have a rubber heel area for added traction support.

    Rubber Soles

These soles are commonly seen on boots as rubber is an affordable, multipurpose material. They will feel bouncy and also help to absorb impact from steps. They also offer a good grip on hazardous surfaces such as oil and water, preventing unnecessary slips and falls. Due to these factors, they suit everyday, high-paced wear.

    Thigh-High Boots Buyers Guide

Thigh-high boots are a beauty to behold. They reach the mid/higher thigh and when paired correctly can work wonders to dress many different types of styles.

They are versatile in design, with some having a classy leather or suede neutral appearance, and others an electric, shiny party vibe. They also come in a variety of heels, from a sexy stiletto to a chunky block heel for that added support. In short - thigh-high boots have something for everyone and can dress up or down a variety of styles.

Whatever your taste, if you are looking for thigh-high boots it is important to find ones that actually run to your thigh, without falling too wither too high up or low down your legs. So on this page we have sorted some truly thigh-high styles that have been widely praised for their good looks and comfort.

    Are Thigh-High Boots in Style?

Thigh-high boots often appear on fashion runways and in magazines, and also are constantly being used by celebrities. This popularity has spurred designers to continuously reinvent them - so the answer is yes, they are in style.

They are also a practical way of adding style and comfort. They are well suited to autumn and winter months, fitting in well with thicker clothing, and by covering the majority of the leg, they will keep you warm too. This is another reason that leads to why they show no signs of going out of fashion anytime soon.

    Are Thigh-high Boots Appropriate

If you are wanting to avoid your boots standing out as the centerpiece of outfits, then there are some rules you can follow that will help your thigh-high boots to blend in nicely with everyday wear.

    • Keep your clothes loose around the body so they are not nearing skin tightness. This will make the boots appear less sexy and provide a more relaxed overall feeling.
    • Wearing monochromatic or neutral colors alongside your boots will help them to blend nicely without standing out. Another thing to do is to stop showing skin, by wearing tights for a streamlined look.
    • The materials and design matter. Classic real leather or suede will give off a classy timeless vibe recognized by everyone. This is often accompanied by a toned-down design aesthetic that can raise the versatility of the boots for everyday wear.
    • A lower heel without a platform in combination with a rounded toe design can also make a difference in how they are perceived as appropriate.

Do Thigh-High Boots Make You Look Shorter?

This depends. For example, if you opt for a lower-heeled design with a shaft height that rises to near the crotch area, combined with a wider boot opening and colors that break the appearance, then yes, this can definitely make you appear shorter.

Here Are Some Tricks to Look Taller

Firstly, knowing your measurements is vital, as you want the shaft to end around midway up the thigh.

    • When wearing a short skirt/shorts make sure you will be showing enough skin between the end of the boot shaft and the beginning of your clothing as this will give the appearance of longer legs.
    • Higher-waisted designs and thin belts will elongate their look. Avoid wearing layers over the boots, as this will shorten the appearance of the legs.
    • Neutral colors are another way to add height. If wearing them in colder seasons then pair them with similar colored + well-fitted clothing such as Jeans and leggings that will elongate the look of the legs.
    • Higher heels are often accompanied by pointy toe designs that will give the appearance of longer feet and a streamlined leg line.
    • Avoid a wide calf and boot opening as this will give the impression of width. Try to find materials that are stretchy and adaptable as these will fit like gloves around the legs and this will also help to give a slender appearance.
    • Adding accessories on the top half of the body will draw attention upwards and help with the illusion of added height. Busy, appropriate styling will lead to added confidence, and this can make you appear larger than life, too.

    How Should Thigh-High Boots Fit?

Boots should fit securely and comfortably, neither tight nor loose - like a glove. This will keep them held up above the knee and ensure a secure fitting.

Thigh-high boots are going to be especially suited to taller women and those who have longer legs. This is because they will accentuate their slimness and help show them off to the world.

For shorter legs however they may run too high, and the outcome will be that they cover more of the leg than desired, and this can have an undesirable shortening effect. This is not always the case, and some companies adjust their shaft and boot opening height according to foot size, so make sure you check your measurements first.

    Slim Calves/Thighs

Those with slim legs can look for a lace-up or zip closure as this will provide a secure fitting. If they continue to feel too big, then try a pair of leggings, jeans, or material that can help to add a layer inside of the boot for added traction and help them to stay tight.

    Thick Calves/Thighs

For those on the thicker side, you may need to search harder to find the perfect pair of boots, as sometimes the fit around the calves/thighs will be compressed and they can be troublesome to pull over the knees, etc. There are some wider calf/thigh options available though, but these will not fit all wider legs, so before making a purchase it is best to measure your size and compare with the boot size before purchasing.

One thing to note is that it is best to check the foot, calf, and thigh area measurements of the boots, as some have an unusual shape. For instance, some pointed toe designs have limited space in the foot area but will have a wider thigh area, so while they will fit the thigh, they will be painful for wider feet.

ADVICE - If you find a company that suits your needs, take note of the measurements and have a look at their range of boots, as they will often be a similar shape and they may produce styles perfect for your taste and fit. Sometimes there is an option of having them tailor-made, so again, check out the seller page before purchasing.

    Ankles

Ankle sizes are usually not shown on the seller page but are equally as important to size. This is because if everything else seems to fit perfectly and the shoes are too tight around the ankles - you will not be comfortable wearing them, as this area does not stretch much.

To gain a rough idea of the ankle size of a boot you can either look closely at the ankle area of the boot in pictures or have a good look at the model and see how it is fitting them.

    How To Measure Your Size

In general, a boot of 23.62 inches or 60 cm's + can be classed as a thigh-high boot and will extend to at least the mid-thigh area on most women. Although for shorter legs, this may rise too high up the leg, and for longer legs, this may still fall below the thigh. This is one reason why it is important to understand your size before purchasing boots

Use a flexible measuring tape and loosely measure the following, and compare it to the boot of your choice.

    Shaft Height

Shaft Height is measured from the bottom arch of the foot to the place you would be happy for the boot to end on your thigh.

    Calf Circumference

Calf circumference is measured loosely around the fullest part of the calf, in-between the ankle and knee.

As a rough guide, 14 inches (35.56 cm) or less is classified as a narrow calf, 15 inches (38.1 cm) as medium and 16 inches (40.64 cm) as wider. It is important to have a small amount of room in the back of the calf area, and around 1 inch (2.54 cm) will work for most people.

    Boot Opening

Boot Opening (thigh circumference) is measured loosely around the part of the leg you would like the boot to end. You want a little room here, as being too tight in this area will limit leg function.

REMEMBER that some boots will measure differently from what they seem.

For larger legs, if the boot seems to measure too small for your leg measurements then some smaller styles can have a flexible fabric that can accommodate a wider size. For smaller legs, if the boots seem too large, then some boots will also have adjustable buckles, and elastic bands to hold them in place. Also, some will naturally crumple or fall down the leg line and this can decrease their height an inch or so.

Be sure to check all these things before purchasing.

How To Pull Tighter Boots On

Pulling long boots can be an issue, especially when they are on the tighter side or have a stretchy shaft!

So, to help them move seamlessly up the leg you can wear materials that create less friction over your pants or legs.

For example, tights/nylon fabric is smooth and can help you to pull them over the knees! Some people even use a plastic bag, and once your foot is inside just rip the bag out!

You can also try folding the top of the boot over, and then gradually scrunch it down until you can comfortably insert your leg inside.

Then you can gradually ease the fabric up over the leg. Once you have finished this be sure to give the top a good pull to iron out any wrinkles/creases that have appeared!

How To Stop Them Falling Down

Some boots just keep slouching, and that battle to keep them up can drive you mad! Fortunately, there are some tricks to help them stay firmly in place!

    • For a short-term fix that is also a cost-effective option, double-sided tape can be used to keep your boots stuck up against your legs. By placing the tape around your leggings etc you can pull the boot up and then gently press the tape on the inner fabric.
    • You can purchase velcro bootstraps that can be placed over your pants around the calf or thigh area. Once these are secured on just pull up your boots over the straps, and this should provide the friction necessary to keep them up!
    • Swap out thinner for thicker clothing. For example, if you are wearing thin socks then consider wearing 2/3 layers, or thicker versions, and if wearing thinner fabrics such as nylon then swap this out with a pair of jeans

Also, when purchasing your boots there are design traits to look out for that will prevent them from slouching.

Adjustable buckles/belts and stretch panels that run the full length of the shaft can prevent the boots from slouching at different points on the leg. Further, a back adjustable lacing system can securely tighten them to help them to stay in place. Finally, look out for stretchy materials on the shaft area, as these are often adaptable enough to secure both smaller and larger calves.

    Common Heel Types

    High Heels/Stilettos

Commonly seen on thigh-high boots, higher heels add both height and style. If you want added height without the learning curve of a thinner stiletto, then thicker high heels are a good option. If you want your legs to look as sender as possible for the ultimate chic feel, stilettos have a high and thin tapering heel and options include some of the highest heels available. Some designs use platforms as support. So, if you are looking to lengthen the appearance of your legs they are a great option!

    Chunky/Block Heels

Great for adding extra stability to your steps. They will support a greater surface area of the heel than higher options and evenly distribution the pressure of body weight. This makes them ideal for those who want added stability/height without putting excess strain on the feet, and are suitable for lengthy periods of wear.

    Low Flat Heels

Flat heels 1-1.5 inches (2.54-3.8 cms) are a highly functional option and great for injury prevention, stability, and balance/support. These are a great option for those who want to walk with ease all day long, and for colder months where potentially hazardous surfaces are frequent.

    Materials

    Genuine Leather

An eco-friendly option. Available in different variations, such as smooth and patent, this is the material to look out for as it is more breathable + durable than synthetic materials and will outlive them. It also ages well and softens up as you break it in, leading to a nice custom fitting. In terms of maintenance, leather is easy to wipe down with a damp cloth.

    Genuine Suede

Soft and velvety to the touch, there is no denying this fabric is a great choice for dressy outfits. However, due to its delicate nature, the drawback is that it is susceptible to water damage + staining and needs to be worn selectively. It is fine to treat it with a weatherproofing spray for some light protection, but it will never be as reliable in the colder months as either full-grain leather or a faux leather/suede.

    Faux Leather/Suede

A vegan-friendly option, to the untrained eye this man-man material is similar in looks and also feels similar to genuine leather. It is more economical than real leather, but also less durable. It is good for everyday wear as it doesn't stain easily, and for boots that can easily be replaced. It is also especially suited for nights out on the town, as designs are often flamboyant in nature.

    Toe Styles

    Pointed Toes

This type of toe design is sharp and classy in appearance.

Pointed toes are perfect for elongating/slimming the feet and work well for smaller toes, but sometimes can be troubling for larger ones.

If you want maximize the look of length then pair them with a stiletto heel for the ultimate elongation!

    Round Toes

This style works well for wider feet and for a classic, neutral appearance that will pair well with neutral-looking outfits.

    Inner Lining

    Fleece

Fleece/Wooly lining is perfect for winter seasons. This is due to its soft/cozy and heat-insulating nature. It is also breathable, durable, and resists moisture build-up inside of the boot, preventing sweaty/smelly feet.

    Leather

This is the go-to lining for higher-quality boots. It is made for long-term usage and is adaptable to your movements, so will shape nicely to your legs/feet over time. Leather is also a breathable fabric, allowing airflow throughout and will evaporate moisture build-up, too.

    Textile Lining

An animal-friendly option and also cost-effective, commonly seen in mid/low-quality boot designs. It will provide adequate comfort and protection. The downside is that it is not breathable or moisture-wicking, and therefore hot and sweaty feet and smelly boots are a common occurrence after long periods of wear.

    Soles

    Leather Soles

Built for long-term use, when you first wear them they will often feel hard and awkward to walk in. However, this changes over time and they will soften up nicely, providing a custom and flexible fitting. They are also durable and sometimes constructed in 2/3 layers to protect your feet and prevent resoling as often. One drawback, however, is that they are not best suited to wetter climates as they absorb moisture and this can irreparably damage them fairly quickly.

    Rubber Soles

Commonly used on boot styles, rubber soles provide an all-around balance of stability, affordability, and comfort. Providing a nice bouncy cushion underneath, they are also weather-resistant, and often have thick and shaped treads to give necessary traction support for wetter/colder weather.

They are highly suited to everyday wear and are often seen in combination with leather soles on the heel tip of boots for added slip resistance.
