Ever since the Die Hard films began, I have been a fan of Bruce Willis, and the phrase "Yippie-Kay-Yae" is firmly etched in my mind for eternity! Bruce has a career spanning over 4 decades, with countless movies such as Sin City worthy of a Friday night's viewing.
Regarding his stature, he generally appears over average height on the screen through holding a straight posture and also having an athletic physique, and next to other actors who claim 6 feet tall, he certainly holds his own!
So, this page is dedicated to investigating Bruce's real height. I will do this by looking at his height claims and also by comparing his height to other celebrities to find out how tall he stood during his peak years, and also the height he stands at today.
So What's His Real Height?
After watching movie clips and also looking at photo comparisons of Bruce's height compared to other celebs, in earlier years I believe Bruce stood at 5'11.5" tall throughout the majority of the day. In the 2020s however, I believe he has lost in the region of 0.5"-0.75 inches of height, standing between 5'10.75-5'11" tall.
However, at his peak height, I will list him at 5'11.5" (181.6 cm) tall here.'
Height Claims
Bruce Willis's official site that was active from 2003-2011 had him listed at 6'1" tall (1). I am not sure if this was a measurement that he stated, however.
Also, on The Late Show With David Letterman, when being interviewed the subject of his height came up, and Bruce stated his height as 6 feet tall. Although, due to Bruce appearing on this show more than 60 times over the years, I have not been able to find this interview clip!
Finally, he is listed on Google at 6 feet or 183 cm tall.
Compared to Celebs in Younger Years
Armold Schwarzenegger (Peak Height) 6'1.5" (186.7 cm)
Arnold Schwarzenegger has suffered significant height loss in his later years. However, in their younger years, in various photos and movie clips, Arnold appears a consistent 2 inches taller than Willis. This puts Willis's height at 5'11.5" tall.
Damon Wayans 6'1.5" (186.7 cm)
In The classic 1991 film The Last Boyscout, Damon appears on average to have a 0.75" height advantage over Willis, putting Willis at 5'11.75" tall.
Compared to Celebs in Recent Years
Height loss
As we age past 40, we tend to lose on average 1cm of height per decade, and akin to other celebs, Bruce falls in line with this, and now entering his late 60's, Bruce has lost some height. Today I believe he stands around 0.5"-0.75" shorter than he did during his peak years.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt 5'9" (175.3 cm)
At the Looper premier and other events, there appears to be a consistent 2 inch height difference between Bruce and Joseph. This puts Bruce's height at a flat 5'11" tall.
James McAvoy 5'7" (170.2 cm)
More recently, however, at movie premieres for films such as the 2019 thriller Glass there appears to be a 3.75" difference in height between James and Bruce. For the first time, I can see Bruce falling under 5'11" tall, standing at 5'10.75" entering the 2020s.
The Results
When comparing Bruce's height to other celebs, at his peak I cannot see him falling under 5'11.5" tall. Today, however, he seems to stand in the range of 5'10.75"-5'11", and still comfortably over the 5'9.5" average for American men.

The Bottom Line
In earlier years at his peak height, Bruce stood between 5'11.5-5'11.75" tall. Although, fast forward a few decades and now well into his 60's, it appears that Bruce has lost some height. I would say that as of today he stands around 0.75" shorter now than he did during his peak years, which is a perfectly normal height loss.
At his peak, however, for the majority of the day, I firmly believe he stood at 5'11.5" (181.6 cm) tall, and this is what he will be listed at on this page.
